Are San Diego libraries accepting book donations?
Book donations are currently not being accepted. The proceeds from sales go to support the San Diego Public Library. For more information about branch book sales, please contact the Library Branch directly.
Can I return books to San Diego Public Library?
Books checked out from San Diego Public Library locations can be returned to the Central library or any of our branch locations. Books checked out from other library systems around San Diego County (i.e. San Diego County Library) that are returned to San Diego Public Library cannot be checked in.
Do San Diego County Library cards expire?
Your Library Card may be used at any City of San Diego Public Library location. Library card privileges expire every year. In order to renew your account, please present proof of current address at any San Diego Public Library location.
Can books be checked out from the library?
Most modern libraries will have two options: either take your books right to the desk for the librarian to check out, or take them to the nearby self-checkout machine. To have the librarian check out your books: When it’s your turn, go up to the desk and place your books and your card on the desk.

There is not a limit on how many materials /books you can check out at a time, except maybe how many you can carry.

According to the “Circulation and Library Card” policy, “Library cards expire regularly to confirm address and other contact information.” We expire cards so that we may periodically check with patrons to assure we have updated information.
