Where can I return library books in San Diego?
Books checked out from San Diego Public Library locations can be returned to the Central library or any of our branch locations. Books checked out from other library systems around San Diego County (i.e. San Diego County Library) that are returned to San Diego Public Library cannot be checked in.
Are San Diego Libraries accepting returns?
Yes, you can return materials through our book drops at 36 library locations.
What happens if you return a book to the wrong library?
The book will be checked in and discharged at the library where you returned it and sent back to the correct library. You can look up the book in the Catalog to make sure it is no longer checked out. The status should be “In transit” but without a due date.
How do I return a book UCSD?
Return materials at book return bins. Bins are located outside Geisel Library’s entrance or outside the south entrance of the Biomedical Library Building. Additionally, drive-up return bins are located on Hopkins Drive, just west of Geisel Library.

What do you do when you lose a library book?
Contact a library staff member as soon as possible for assistance. If library material has been lost by a patron, the Libraries will assess replacement fees of $125.00, a general processing fee of $25.00 and overdue fees if applicable. Replacement fees for some materials may be higher.

The Geisel Library Building is open during select hours as a controlled, socially-distanced study space for UC San Diego students, beginning June 29, 2021. The facility will offer study space only, not library services or access to collections.
