When planning began in 1922, Suzzallo envisioned a library that was to be “the soul of the university.” An example of the Collegiate Gothic style, the library was designed by Carl F. Suzzallo Library, named for Henry Suzzallo, the fifteenth president of the University, opened in 1926.
